Maggie takes top tri honors

The Cyclery’s ambassador Maggie Welfare left the competition behind and took out 1st place in her age group at last weekend’s Elite Energy Batemans Bay Tri Run.

Check out Maggie’s event wrap up:

“Race morning dawned with a stunning sunrise on a perfect day – could not have asked for better conditions! It was nice to have a little distraction from the pre-race nerves as I was also supporting my sister and a friend for their first sprint (750, 20, 5) and standard (1.5, 40, 10 – also the distance I was completing) races.”

“The water was a beautiful 21 degrees, not cold but still wetsuit temp. I was really happy with my swim, first girl out of the water and catching some of the men from 2 waves in front (who started 3 and 6 mins ahead) and even though the swim was about 200-300m long I pushed hard the whole way.”

“A short run to transition with another girl hot on my heels, super speedy transition and onto my favourite, the bike!”

“The bike course is known as one of the tougher ones on the Australian tri scene, not shying away from the ‘undulations’ – as a ride it’s nothing too bad, but when you’re backing up from an ocean swim and are about to run, it certainly tickles! Unfortunately for me, my legs were feeling a little spent in the hills, but I still pushed through to hold onto 2nd (5th fastest for the women) off the bike. Another fast transition and that’s where the speed ended.”

“Out onto the run, legs felt zapped from the get-go and they only got worse – nutrition may not have been 100%.”

“Luckily my first 2 legs were enough to keep me out in front and I finished up 1st in my age group and 11th overall.”

“Now for some R&R and then on to some serious off-season cycling and trail running – after the bike gets some TLC from the legends at The Cyclery.”
